The first time I can recall hearing the Beatles was when I was 10 years old. Now mind you...I was all of three years old when the Beatles broke up in 1970. But it was love at first note. Each Beatle touches my soul in his own unique way. And no one was more unique than John. The cheeky lad...
Today, October 9, is John Winston Lennon's birthday. He would have been 72. And every year on his birthday I ponder this question: What sort of musical magic would the man have graced us with had he been allowed to live a ripe old age? ...imagine...
Today I will wear my tattered and disintegrating John Lennon t-shirt in his honor. My t-shirt has the iconic image from above on it. This has been one of my most prized possessions. I've had it so long I'm not ever sure how old it is.
I would wear it when I was sad and needed something to cheer me up. I would wear it when I needed a boost of confidence. I would wear it when I was ticked off and need that attitude to carry my resolve. I would wear when I was feeling a bit cheeky. In short? I wore this t-shirt a lot.
Some day soon I'll have to tuck it away forever. It's threadbare and has holes that grow merely by wearing it. It will be a sad, sad day for me. Just as today is. I can replace a t-shirt but the man who inspired it will never be replaced. No one will come close.
I will leave you with a few of my favorite images and quotes from John. I also ask you to simply:...imagine...
"Count your age by friends, not year. Count your life by smiles, not tears."
"Life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans."
"Time wounds all heels"
"Time you enjoyed wasting wasn't wasted."
“There are places I'll remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all”
